Safari sights! Witnessed on a boat ride on the pr Safari sights! Witnessed on a boat ride on the pristine Kabini backwaters moving steadily and slowly along the beautiful Nagarahole Wildlife Preserve and the Bandipur National Park. The banks are always a sight to behold sometimes displaying jungle action and sometimes hiding the active life within, with a serene facade. FYI, while bird sightings are amazing in both the morning and noon safaris, wildcats and elephants are more visible in the afternoon rides. A Little Italy tucked away in Nashik! figuratively A Little Italy tucked away in Nashik! figuratively and literally😉 (they have the famous Little Italy restaurant there!) The pale yellow walls of the buildings with terracotta tiles and wooden shutters, small patios and sit-outs, lush green vines climbing upwards, and view of the vineyards…transport you to Bella Toscana🍇 And of course the delicious choices of wines add flavour to your stay. Good food, more enjoyable in this amazing monsoon weather, great service, and nice comfy room. We had chosen the tree house with the vineyard view, it was cozy and rustic! In activities there is cycling through vineyards (which we thoroughly enjoyed🚴‍♀️), pool, and wine tours available with and without tasting. P.S. the wine tours and common restaurants could get a little crowded during weekends, but there is always La Bodega, the restaurant exclusive for staying guests. Another Murder Mystery! And what a fun, poignant, Another Murder Mystery! And what a fun, poignant, breezy read. What is different about this book is not the story but the characters — Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim, and Ron are residents of Coopers Chase, a retirement community. Their conversations at the Thursday Murder Club are a delight. Straight shootings and matter of fact statements will make you laugh out loud. They are lovable, warm, smart, and at an age of 70-80 still filled with a zest to continue having adventures and experiences. So these 4 are part of Thursday Murder Club, where they discuss old unsolved Murder Mysteries every Thursday, while having glasses of wine. And they make it seem so enjoyable you almost wished you were a part of it. In the midst of reviewing a past Murder, a live one takes place at Coppers Chase. A chance at which Elizabeth ( you could call her the head) jumps. And the other 3 obediently follow because to be honest they were more than willing to be a part of something so thrilling and different from their slow moving lives. As you read the book you’ll understand the characters so well, there were times where I thought to myself ‘oh, this is so Elizabeth’ or ‘this was expected of Ibrahim’😀 As regards to the mystery there are twists and turns, some surprising and some expected but it will still keep you on the hook. Another thrilling escape! The suspense definitely Another thrilling escape! The suspense definitely builds and I was unable to put it down. A little different than a typical Baldacci though you do have FBI agents running around to catch the killer. However, it is a small disappointment that one of the mysteries remains unsolved. The good point is there is a sequel 🤞🏼 On second glance I think my caption is as cryptic as this story 🤪 But don’t want to spoil it for you. It took me a long time to finish this book. The st It took me a long time to finish this book. The start is extremely slow and the story takes time to set in. But once it does, you can’t stop. Shankar lost his job as a clerk in a lawyer’s office. As he struggles to meet ends with a low paying commission based sales job, he gets the opportunity to work in Calcutta’s best hotel, Shahjahan. Shahjahan or rather the people working there are the soul of this book. It talks about the daily churn and rigour of hundreds of staff responsible for a comfortable stay in this luxurious palace. The has deep dived into the lives of a select few. The debonair receptionist Sata Bose, who you instantly like, the mysterious manager- Marco Polo, the vivacious hostess Krabi Guha, the dry cleaner, the musician, the chef, the bartender, the occasional dancers that are hired for the club, and the numerous visitors who spend their days and nights in this hotel. As Shankar recites the tales of all the people he met while in Shahjahan and reveals the ugly truths, the hidden struggles, the sudden tragedies, we realise that there is a sliver of grey in everyones lives no matter who you are. Set in 1950s Calcutta, Chowringhee is a poignant read. Every story, every flashback, and every character will make you emotional.
