It took me a long time to finish this book. The st It took me a long time to finish this book. The start is extremely slow and the story takes time to set in. But once it does, you can’t stop.

Shankar lost his job as a clerk in a lawyer’s office. As he struggles to meet ends with a low paying commission based sales job, he gets the opportunity to work in Calcutta’s best hotel, Shahjahan.

Shahjahan or rather the people working there are the soul of this book. It talks about the daily churn and rigour of hundreds of staff responsible for a comfortable stay in this luxurious palace.

The has deep dived into the lives of a select few. The debonair receptionist Sata Bose, who you instantly like, the mysterious manager- Marco Polo, the vivacious hostess Krabi Guha, the dry cleaner, the musician, the chef, the bartender, the occasional dancers that are hired for the club, and the numerous visitors who spend their days and nights in this hotel.

As Shankar recites the tales of all the people he met while in Shahjahan and reveals the ugly truths, the hidden struggles, the sudden tragedies, we realise that there is a sliver of grey in everyones lives no matter who you are.

Set in 1950s Calcutta, Chowringhee is a poignant read. Every story, every flashback, and every character will make you emotional. It is a glimpse into the lifestyle and culture of a metro through the veil of Shahjahan hotel.

Bridgeton is a bolder version of Jane Austen stori Bridgeton is a bolder version of Jane Austen stories and a classical twist to gossip girl. High society life, debutantes, garden parties & balls, flirtations, romance, and of course gossip. A sigh worthy watch!

Bridgerton series, written by Julia Quinn, explores the lives of the Bridgerton siblings.

Season 1 is based on the first book of this series, The Duke and I, which focuses on Daphne Bridgerton.

It is an absolute delight for readers who enjoy English classics.

I haven’t read the books, but completely binged on this show. ☕️🍸💃

‘A Cuban girl’s guide to tea and tomorrow’ i ‘A Cuban girl’s guide to tea and tomorrow’ is a cute, cozy, and delectable story filled with English country vibe, delicious food, buttery goodies, Cuban coffee, aromatic teas, and Spanish words.

It’s the story of Lila, a Cuban Miami girl, and an aspiring bakery chef, who plans to run her Abuela’s (grandmom’s) cafe. Her perfectly planned life goes for a toss after a series of heartbreaks.

To recover from them, her family ships her off to Winchester, England to stay with her aunt and uncle, who own an inn.

As Lila struggles with her family’s decision and the poles apart weather of Miami and Winchester, she finds solace in the one thing that she still knows and can control—Cooking.

And it is her cooking which helps her bond and make friends in Winchester. One being more special than the rest.

A light and happy read, perfect for a relaxing weekend.

A warm, cozy, family movie I would suggest watchin A warm, cozy, family movie I would suggest watching this Christmas is ‘We bought a Zoo’.

Starring Matt Damon and Scarlet Johansson, directed by Cameron Crowe, it is loosely based on a memoir of the same name by Benjamin Mee.

Benjamin, a widowed father is looking for a change of space and ends up purchasing a dilapidated zoo where he moves in with his family.

What ensues is his efforts and struggle to manage the zoo and his kids.

It’s in no way a sad movie. It’s a happy feel good movie, the kinds you can enjoy with a hot coco and a blanket.

The movie is currently available on Disney + Hotstar premium.

Forgot how much fun reading a John Grisham was! It Forgot how much fun reading a John Grisham was! It’s been almost 2 years since I picked up one of his books.

The Litigators is a fun & engaging book filled with humour, wit, and oops moments for the three lawyers: Walter Figg, Oscar Finley, and David Zinc.

Finley & Figg call themselves a boutique law firm. The big shots call them the ‘ambulance chasers’ as they make most of their income from accidents and DUIs.

David Zinc, a Harvard Law Graduate, quits his high-profile & stressful job at a prestigious firm, and stumbles into Finley & Figg on a very drunken day, and gets hired.

Finely & Figg soon gets involved in a case against a big pharma company. Egged on by the ambitious but unrealistic Walter Figg the three find themselves standing unprepared, clueless, and fumbling through a trial against the most successful trial lawyer of Chicago.

The situation is an oxymoron of hilarity & embarrassment for the so called boutique firm.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. I am never disappointed by A John Grisham Book!

Waah Taj! What a stay. Amazing view, delicious foo Waah Taj! What a stay. Amazing view, delicious food, and total safety. A delightful staycation.

What is also wonderful is the way things are being managed by the hotel staff-with total patience and politeness.

Also have to mention, the guests were all patient and tolerant of the long queues / wait time for check in and meals.

It is great to see people being understanding of the current situation and not arguing unnecessarily with the hotel staff.

PS- some great deals are running on booking.com and makemytrip.com for stays in these luxurious properties. Do check them out if interested.

One of my bucket list wishes got ticked today😀

Another adaption, but this time not Shakespeare, i Another adaption, but this time not Shakespeare, it is Agatha Christie.

Known for his amazing storytelling and direction, I am quite excited for this one.

There are so many amazing Agatha Christie books, I wonder which book Mr. Bharadwaj is adapting. 🤔

CLUES WE HAVE:
He is developing it as a franchise. He will introduce a lead pair of investigators. One of them being a young heroine, who will team up with an unlikely companion to unravel the case. The duo will feature in subsequent films where they will continue investigating murder mysteries.

Which series do you think he is adapting?

#repost from my blog In a mood for some light read #repost from my blog
In a mood for some light reading, I started surfing the Kindle Store. I came across some titles by Rhys Bowen. After checking out the synopsis and rating on goodreads I purchased 'The Tuscan Child'.

The book opens in 1944 where Hugo Langley, a British bomber pilot, parachutes out of a bombed plane into German occupied Tuscany. Badly wounded he is found and helped by a village belle Sofia Bartoli.

A parallel story tells the tale of Joanna Langley, Hugo's estranged daughter who returns home after his death. Amongst the possessions of her father she finds an unopened letter addressed to Sofia. Surprised by the contents of the letter and to heal her emotional wounds Joanna decides to travel to Tuscany to find out the truth about her father and Sofia.

The book shuffles beautifully between the two story lines as they move together towards the climax and the mysterious end to Sofia and Hugo's relation. Joanna's part after she reaches the remote town of San Salvatore in Tuscany becomes much more engrossing. The vivid descriptions of Tuscany countryside and Italian food is delightful and frankly mouth-watering!

It is world war/historical fiction. The book keeps you hooked right till the end. Its something you can take on a vacation or read on a beach.
